Ladywood receives Coronavirus Relief Funds

May, 2020

The Heart of England Community Foundation has stepped forwards to support our Ladywood group in Birmingham make the transition to online Dance to Health classes.

Keeping people active and dancing is more important now than ever as our participants find themselves isolated at home. Dance to Health has been tackling this problem by moving our services online - but this is not without difficulties! Heart of England Community Foundation was generously doubled the bid, giving £3,000 to the group to pay our talented Dance Artists to produce videos, and to provide the technology and software needed to get Dance to Health Online up and running in Birmingham. Jenny Murphy has pioneered Zoom Dance to Health which has proved very popular with the participants at Ladywood. She is now using the experience she’s gained to help our other dance artists move to Zoom classes too.

This will make such a big difference to our participants and the feedback from them has already been very positive. One person even asked for three classes each week! In the words of a Ladywood participant “I have attended all of the present sessions with Jenny Murphy and they have been excellent. Apart from the exercise, it’s lovely to see the faces of the other people in the group. I find this a more user friendly way of doing exercise than having it written down … with the current restrictions, it’s a great option.”

Dance to Health Ladywood, with support from Aesop, are very grateful to Heart of England Community Foundation for the award of coronavirus resilience funds which have enabled the continued provision of their falls-prevention service during this period of social isolation.
